Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Istanbul is a unique metropolis; it combines a long history with an immensely rich culture since historical empires - such as the Byzantine / Roman, the Hellenic and the Turkish - Ottoman - have reigned in this City and have left their socio-cultural imprints on it. This richness is coupled with a very unique geographical location; Istanbul , the "Queen of Cities" is a metropolis where West and East are unified through the various bridges on the Bosphorus.

THE OLYMPICS OF THE BRAIN is the official World Congress of the International Organization of Psychophysiology (I.O.P.), associated with the United Nations ( New York ). The Scientific Program of the 13 th World Congress of Psychophysiology will be composed of Invited Keynote Speakers, Keynote Symposia, Symposia, Workshops and Poster Presentations on the most advanced findings on all aspects of Psychophysiology as a leading Brain / Behavioral Neuroscience.

The World Congress will welcome both basic and applied research; it will welcome empirical and also theoretical studies in Psychophysiology, a scientific discipline where mind and body are looked into and treated with equal emphasis and expertise. Istanbul has a long lasting and rich tradition in applied Medicine, and therefore, clinical approaches will be very much appreciated in IOP2006. Furthermore, the International Organization of Psychophysiology is strongly encouraging its Professional Membership to use the title "Psychophysiologists" in identifying themselves. It is appropriate in both avenues: 1) for those who specialize in and use the theories, methods and techniques of Psychophysiology and 2) for those Psychophysiologists who are at the same time Neurologists, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Neurosurgeons, or Neurophysiologists, who should identify themselves by using both titles (Mangina, 2002, 2003).

All accepted Abstracts will be published in the official Journal of I.O.P. the world acclaimed and prestigious International Journal of Psychophysiology . The Journal will be distributed to all Delegates at the World Congress site in Istanbul . Additionally, the 2 nd Workshop of the "International Multidisciplinary Brain Dynamics and Cognition Network" affiliated to and under the legal jurisdiction and authority of I.O.P. / UN will also be included into the Program of the World Congress of IOP2006 in Istanbul .

Such special occasions are critical not only for the advancement of Brain Science and Psychophysiology but also for World Peace. We hope that IOP2006 in Istanbul will serve as an arena of outstanding scientific cooperation between neuroscientists from all over the World in this legendary City where the West meets the East.
